Last night I was called out to two jobs in Sherwood both were opening doors but each very different but by telling of both it gives an insight into the jobs we get as a emergency locksmith.

The first job was a call out to a property on Perry Rd…. not the big house and a prisoner needing his cell door opening but to a young family who were locked out of their bathroom. This was an odd one as the bathroom had a keyed handle lock – every upstairs room had the same but the new residents didn’t have any keys to any of the doors, their young son had twisted the privacy knob on the inside of the door and when the door was closed it left the family unable to open again – this type of locks are very popular in student lets and HMO’s they are also used widely in hotels abroad. Unlike other types of this lock I had encountered before the key way ran horizontal instead of vertical like every other key way does so to tackle this lock I had to bend at the waist 90degrees… luckily this type of door doesn’t hold any security pins and even in this weird body position the lock picked open quickly and before the blood had run to my head.
The second job of the night was again in Sherwood this time a flat on Mansfield Rd. The job came in just 30mins after I had finished the first but because my home is just 10mins away in Carlton I was already home so I jumped in the van and headed back to Sherwood.
The young lady had left her keys inside when going out and needed us to gain entry back in. This night time job was a perfect chance to try out my new LED beanie. I’ve tried all types of lights before the miners cap type and even one I wore on my chest like iron man but this simple 5 led light worked a treat and I was able to see my tools as I set about opening this wooden exterior door. The job was to open a ERA BS deadlocking latch lock so no quick bypass with the trusted mica this needed to be picked open, a quick rake of the pins to quick set as many as possible then with a small hook pick I gently lifted the remaining pins I managed to over lift on a spool pin so relaxed the tension dropping the lot! So I started again but knowing that pesky 3rd pin this time I eased all to the shear line and the lock was opened.
After a quick check to confirm the keys were indeed inside I nodded farewell and headed back home not a bad evening of work and a glowing review left as well.
